Sumikko Farm: A Beginner’s Guide to the Cute Farming Game

Sumikko Farm combines two things I enjoy: Sumikko Gurashi characters and a cute little farming game.

You can grow crops, produce goods, complete orders, and decorate your farm while familiar characters wander around and go about their activities.

One thing I particularly like is that I can play for five minutes or fifty minutes, depending on how much time I have. There’s always something to do, but I don’t need to set aside a long gaming session.

What Is Sumikko Farm?

Sumikko Farm is a mobile farming game featuring the Sumikko Gurashi characters created by San-X.

The name Sumikko Gurashi refers to characters who feel most comfortable tucked away in corners. The main group includes:

• Shirokuma: A shy polar bear who dislikes the cold.
• Penguin?: A green character who’s unsure whether it’s really a penguin.
• Tonkatsu: The leftover end piece of a pork cutlet.
• Neko: A timid cat who likes hiding in corners.
• Tokage: A dinosaur who pretends to be a lizard.

These characters appear throughout the game as you develop your farm.

The gameplay combines crop growing, production buildings, orders, and decoration. There are tasks to work toward, but you can decide how much time to spend playing.

Getting Started With Your Farm

When you first begin, the game introduces you to growing and harvesting crops.

You’ll plant seeds, wait for your crops to grow, and collect the harvest. Some crops grow quickly, while others take longer.

As you progress, you’ll gain access to additional crops, production buildings, and areas of the farm.

At first, I’d concentrate on understanding the basic farming cycle rather than trying to decorate everything immediately.

Once you know which crops and products you need most often, it becomes easier to decide what to grow next.

Growing Crops and Making Products

Farming is the main activity in Sumikko Farm.

You grow crops and use some of your harvest to make products in different buildings.

For example, a production building might need a particular crop before it can create an item.

This means you’ll need to think a little about how you use your harvest. Selling everything immediately can leave you short of ingredients when you need to make something else.

A useful habit is to keep a small supply of commonly used crops whenever possible.

As more products become available, planning ahead becomes increasingly helpful.

Completing Orders and Earning Rewards

Orders give you a reason to keep producing crops and goods.

They request specific items, which you prepare and deliver in exchange for rewards.

Completing orders helps you progress and earn resources for your farm.

Some requests are easier than others, depending on what you already have in storage.

If an order needs several products, check their ingredients before deciding what to grow next. That way, you can avoid waiting for a crop you could have planted earlier.

You don’t need to complete everything immediately. It’s often more enjoyable to work on a few manageable orders at a time.

Decorating Your Sumikko Farm

One of the most appealing parts of the game is decorating with Sumikko Gurashi-themed items.

You can arrange decorations around your fields and buildings to give the farm a different appearance.

Some decorations feature familiar characters, while others are based on seasonal or themed collections.

You might create a little garden area, group matching decorations together, or leave room for new items you want to collect later.

As your farm grows, you can reorganize the layout to make room for additional buildings and decorative pieces.

If you particularly enjoy collecting kawaii items, this is a good reason to keep playing even after you’ve become familiar with the farming activities.

Events and Special Decorations

Sumikko Farm has featured limited-time events and themed decorations.

Depending on the current event, you may have opportunities to earn or collect items that aren’t part of the regular selection.

Events can also introduce additional tasks, so it’s worth checking what’s available when you open the game.

You don’t have to participate in every event. If you’re mainly interested in growing crops and arranging your farm, you can continue with your usual activities.

Tips for Beginners

Here are a few ways to make your first days easier:

• Keep growing crops. Empty fields aren’t producing anything, so plant something when you have space available.
• Check ingredients before making products. Some goods require crops that take time to grow.
• Keep a little inventory. Having commonly requested items ready can save time later.

• Be selective with resources. You don’t need every decoration immediately, especially while you’re still expanding the farm.

Is Sumikko Farm Worth Playing?

As a Sumikko Gurashi fan, one of my favourite things is simply watching the characters move around the farm and do their little tasks.

The farming activities give me something to work toward, while collecting decorations and seeing the characters makes the game enjoyable beyond completing orders.

If you like Sumikko Gurashi and casual farming games, I’d recommend giving it a try. Just keep in mind that growing crops and producing goods involves waiting, particularly as you progress.
